BUDAPEST

I spent the weekend in Budapest, Hungary....be jealous....it was AMAZING! After a three hour bus ride we got there and started walking around. Within 15 minutes of being in Hungary a Hungarian Frenchman fell in love with me. It was like a weird version of Harry Potter (don't ask me why I thought of it like that). Let me describe our love story.
We were walking along a touristy street and I was holding a map. I was the ultimate tourist with the backpack I was living out of on my back and a touring book under my arm. A man...I'll call him Amintawik....Ami for short....because that's what his name is.
Ami walks towards us with a map and an offer for tours around the city. Amelia being a gem decided to ward him off and told him we already had a map.
"I wasn't giving it to you....I want to give it to her." (her being me)
I accepted it and he took the opportunity to offer me every deal in the book. It offered to take 500 off of the boat tour. Sadly, that is only about a 2 Euro discount.
We didn't seem very interested in tours, but Ami wasn't deterred. He continued to compliment my beauty for the next ten minutes.
(While standing back and looking me up and down) "YOU....are PERFECT!"
Then he decided to plan our life out together.
"You can come to me of I come to you. We can work something out. We can meet in Iceland. That's halfway between."
(At this point I'm laughing and looking for a way out.)
"Do you speak French?!"
No, but she does...
OH!
(He proceeds to speak to Hannah in French....about me.)
Ami in French: Is she from Norway?
Hannah: No
Ami: Her eyes! She must be from Norway...
Hannah: Maybe
Ami: She is so pretty
Hannah: Yeah...
Back to English Ami: I like your face
Me: Um....
Ami: I like how your face is...it's your eyes...I can tell you have kind eyes....very beautiful....I like your face.
Me: thank you....
Ami: Do you have a Hungarian phone number? (This man was persistent. A HUNGARIAN PHONE NUMBER? Who actually has one of those anyway?!)
Me: um....
Ami: What about an e-mail....your email?
Luckily at this point Amelia stepped in
Amelia: How about you give us your e-mail?
He proceeded to write out his e-mail address on the same map he tried to give us before.
He handed me a card for my address and I wrote down an old one I don't use anymore on there...noticing the other e-mails on there....apparently I'm not the only apple to Ami's eye.
We were able to slip away at this point but not without Ami offering his love as we walked away....
Don't worry everyone I think I'm going to hold out for something a little less long distance...and creepy.

Money is a bit different....That's about 50 euros...

This is the Inner City Parish. The oldest building in Pest.

On the Danube

Gellert Hill. The Christian priest Gellert was trying to convert the heathens living there to Christianity. They would have none of it and so they sealed him in a barrel and threw him off the waterfall. He was considered a martyr and they named the whole hill after him.

The statue of St. Gellert from behind him.

Hiking the hill....I loved Budapest for the hiking. We walked in secluded hills and it wasn't as touristy as Prague.

View from the top of the hill.....It was really hot so it was nice when we got to the top and it rained for a little while. The city looked so cool from up here.

Couple on the bottom of the hill

The Cave Church in the hill

Yes we conquered that hill. We started on the far right, hiked up the hill to the monument and then hiked down the other side.

Looking for work

Looking for work and begging for help.

Behind St. Steven's Basilica. It was absolutely beautiful.

Looking off the Chain Bridge toward old mansions.

Budapest was absolutely amazing at night

...and during the day too... This was on our way up Castle Hill on our second day there...
I just loved this car....need I explain more?

At the top of Castle hill this is the Fisherman's Bastion. Never used for defense but it had some cool lookouts of the city....and some interesting people to look at.

More hiking on the hill...

We wen't back to St. Steven's to go inside but they closed it for a wedding. I've now seen a wedding Prague and Budapest....

This is the largest Jewish Synagogue in Europe....and it was pretty cool

On our second day there we decided to go to one of the famous Turkish baths. This was the Rudas Baths. It was built in the 1600s to utilize the natural hot springs. It was an adventure to get in there and figure out what to do, but once sat in the hot and cool baths for a while it was all worth it. It was so hot outside and it felt so good!

This was our hostel...much nicer than our last one minus a few exceptions:
1) there was only 2 bathrooms...so be prepared to wait.
2) Sometimes people snore....and loudly.
3) Sometimes you wake up to French boys changing in front of you. They like briefs...at least these ones did.
4) Sometimes these same French boys (who were admittedly attractive) think you are a stalker. (I asked the front desk person for a towel. He said after he was done with the computer. I waited and then followed him into the kitchen when he got up. He kept giving me weird looks until I asked where the towels were. He was kind enough to inform me he did not work there and had only been using the computer. So I had followed him around the whole hostel for no reason...) He avoided eye contact with me for the rest of the weekend.
This was inside St. Peter's Basilica....it was really cool to go to mass and hear the organ playing and the choir singing....

That was Budapest...It was absolutely amazing and I loved every minute of it!

Ale: "I loved Budapest for the hiking."
Meryl: Bull crap.

Were there naked people at the baths or do they wear swimsuits? Or a little bit of both?

HAHAHA....Meryl....you know me WAY too well...you are right...and I'm not sure why I said that....I liked the paths and the green because there is so much city here....but the hiking- I'm not a fan.
Everyone in the baths were clothed...BARELY! there where a lot of old men in speedos and it was disgusting!

Good usage of the word "barely."
